I have to weigh in here!

I have been fighting with myself all day on whether I wanted to weigh in on the Phil Robertson controversy. I have decided that yes, I do.

Who the hell is Phil Robertson?? For those of you who don’t know he is the creator of Duck Commander Duck Calls and star on the hit reality TV show Duck Dynasty. I have really never watched it, just seen commercials and the show in passing. (does anyone still channel surf?)

So why is this guy under fire?? He made some comments that pissed people off. According to CNN, In the January issue of GQ, Robertson says homosexuality is a sin and puts it in the same category as bestiality and promiscuity. “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical,” he’s quoted as saying. When asked what he thought was sinful, Robertson replied: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” But homosexuals aren’t alone, Robertson said. “Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Now it is very well known that The Duck Commander, as he is referred, is a very religious man and a very southern man. I also believe that everyone is welcome to have the opinions that they choose. It is our American right, whether that pisses you off or not.

Ok, a little history from me before I give my verdict. I have family members that are homosexual, I have friends that are homosexuals and I very much feel that if that is how they are supposed to be it is because God made them that way. I am a religious woman. However, I believe that only the big man (or woman) upstairs should be judging, which is why I went back and forth with whether I wanted to post on this topic.

My verdict: I don’t 100% agree with what he said, however, I don’t think what he said was 100% wrong either. The only part that I don’t like one bit, as a Christian, is the comment that “they won’t inherit the kingdom of God.” Dude, that is not our judgement to make!! That is God’s job.
Mr. Robertson is allowed to have his opinion, and we are allowed to either like it or dislike it. It really is as simple as that.

I think the bigger issue is… should he have been suspended from HIS TV series?? Nope, I do not think he should have been suspended. I think there should have been either nothing done, or more done. The show is about HIS family, HIS product. If A&E felt that they could not work with him any longer, then they should have cancelled the show all together, not just suspend him. There are other platforms that Robertson could speak on if A&E doesn’t want him. It seems A&E wants to keep the show due to ratings and money, but doesn’t want to take a lashing for keeping “a hater” on TV. You can’t have your cake and eat it too A&E.

Well only God knows what is going to happen, and what the outcome of all of this is going to be. I want to hear your thoughts below! Sound off!
